Dave. Frog Prince.

This was our first label and remains our favourite.

As hobby roasters, we're always experimenting. Different beans, different roast profiles, different ideas. Sometimes they work brilliantly and sometimes they don't, but that's all part of the fun.

We like sharing coffee at this early stage with a small group of friends who are kind enough to give honest feedback. Their comments help us understand the bean, refine the roast and decide what to try next.

The goal is to get as close to the perfect roast as possible. We haven't managed it yet and we probably never will, but that's what keeps us coming back.

For these early test roasts, we use Dave the Frog Prince.

He's been with us from the beginning and represents exactly what we're about: trying things, learning as we go and making our mark along the way.

Clive. Business Gerbil.

When we're happy with a roast and ready to share it more widely with friends and family, we use our Daily Grind label featuring Clive the Business Gerbil.

Why a gerbil? Honestly, we're not entirely sure anymore.

Somewhere along the way we thought a gerbil wearing a suit, drinking coffee and heading to work was a good idea. The more we looked at him, the more we liked him.

Clive now marks the roasts that have made it through the testing phase. These are the ones we are most proud of and the coffees we are keen to share.

Could we have chosen a more sensible figurehead? Probably.

Will we replace him? Absolutely not.

After all, Clive has places to be, coffee to drink and a reputation to maintain.
